Association of Pride, Inc. (SNAPI) is to serve the gay, lesbian,
bisexual, and transgender community and to educate the community by
invoking, promoting, and celebrating gay, lesbian, bisexual, and
transgender Pride. Celebrating 23 years of Pride, SNAPI is proud to
announce Pride Week 2006 will be held May 9 - 14. Join for our fabulous

Gay Vegas ~ Gay Rights A Reality in
Las Vegas
Like race, color, religion, sex and disability, sexual
orientation is prohibited as a reason for discrimination. When a Gay Pride picnic was
held at Sunset Park in 1983, only 200 people attended. Gays and lesbians met
primarily in bars, the only place they felt comfortable gathering as a
group.
But things have changed.
With this signing of Assembly Bill 311, Nevada becomes the 11th state
with a law that prohibits employers from discriminating against a person
because of sexual orientation. "Signing this bill was a matter of fairness and doing what's right for
the people of Nevada," Guinn said. "I have always felt that discrimination
based on race, gender, religion or sexual orientation is wrong, and I hope
this law sends that message loud and clear."
The new law was proposed by Assemblyman David Parks, D-Las Vegas.
Parks testified that discrimination against homosexuals is increasing and
said he believes he lost his job with the city of Las
Vegas years ago because he is gay. Under the law, discrimination would be prohibited regardless
of whether a person is heterosexual, homosexual or bisexual. Sexual
orientation joins race, color, age, religion, disability, sex and national
origin as causes for which an employer can be sued for job discrimination.
